Meet Biona: The Family Brand Making Allergy-Friendly Food Simple

For over 35 years, Biona has been a family-owned brand dedicated to creating foods made with real, natural ingredients, nothing unnecessary, nothing hidden. Known for their commitment to clarity and quality, many Biona products are naturally free from common allergens like gluten and dairy, while remaining fully organic and sustainably produced. We spoke with Biona about how they make eating well effortless for those with allergies or sensitivities, their favourite products, and tips for anyone looking to switch to organic and free-from alternative

Can you introduce Biona and tell us what makes your organic and free-from products stand out for people with allergies or sensitivities?

Biona is a family-owned organic brand built on a simple belief: food should be made with real, natural ingredients, nothing unnecessary, nothing hidden. For over 35 years, we have championed organic farming and responsible sourcing, creating products that are good you and great for the planet.

For those with allergies or food sensitivities, Biona offers clarity and trust. We are committed to ingredient integrity, which means no artificial additives, no preservatives, and no GMOs. Many of our products are naturally free from common allergens like gluten and dairy, and every label is designed to help shoppers choose with confidence.

From everyday pantry staples to satisfying snacks and plant-based alternatives, Biona makes eating well feel effortless, for everybody.

Which Biona products will visitors be able to discover or taste on the Holland & Barrett stand this year?

Visitors to the Holland & Barrett stand will be able to discover a vibrant selection of over 30 Biona products, all available in Holland & Barrett stores. We will be offering tastings of some of our customer favourites, including our best-selling tart cherry and cranberry juices. Guests can also sample a range of organic cupboard staples, from gluten-free crackers to our naturally fermented kimchi and sauerkraut.

How does Biona ensure its products are both allergy-friendly and environmentally sustainable?

At Biona, we believe what you leave out matters just as much as what you put in. Our products are made with rigorous allergen controls: thoughtful production layouts, thorough cleaning protocols, clear labelling, and careful segregation of stored ingredients.

Several products, including Biona Cranberry Pure Juice and Biona Coconut Aminos, are made in facilities where allergens aren’t handled at all, either on site or at raw material level. Biona Rice Cakes are certified gluten free and produced with dedicated cross-contamination controls for milk and soya. Every measure exists so you can enjoy our products with complete confidence.

Every Biona product is also certified organic. Organic farming is a collaboration between humans and environment, maximising the natural properties of our planet rather than working against it. Organic agriculture promotes biodiversity and improves soil health, which supports carbon storage.

Sustainability is considered at every step of our production process. We never use air freight, which significantly reduces our carbon footprint, and we continually work to optimise road-based transportation to reduce the number of shipments on the road. Our packaging reflects the same commitment: in recent years we have moved a number of pasta and rice lines into fully recyclable paper bags, and where possible we use glass, paper, and steel. Where plastic cannot be avoided, we are working to increase the use of recycled content.

When you choose Biona, you are choosing a brand that truly cares about the sustainability of our products.

What advice would you give to someone looking to switch to organic or free-from alternatives in their daily diet?

A simple way to start switching to organic or free-from alternatives is to begin with everyday staples. Oats, pasta, sauces, and snacks are easy swaps that can make a real difference over time, without requiring a complete overhaul of your diet.

It also helps to look for products with short, recognisable ingredient lists. Organic foods tend to rely on simpler recipes and avoid artificial additives, which is particularly valuable for anyone with allergies or sensitivities who wants to know exactly what they are eating.

Rather than replacing everything at once, try introducing changes gradually, swapping one or two products each week to see what works best for you. This makes the transition feel more manageable and gives you time to discover new favourites.

Finally, look for trusted organic brands that prioritise quality ingredients and clear labelling, so you can choose with confidence while still enjoying delicious, everyday food.

Are there any interactive experiences, demos, or tastings that visitors shouldn’t miss at your stand?

Alongside our food and drink tastings, we’ll also have a fun, interactive competition. Putting our own twist on the “sleepy girl mocktail” trend, we’ll have a wheelbarrow filled with Biona tart cherry juice and Holland & Barrett magnesium tablets. Visitors can guess how many magnesium bottles are inside the wheelbarrow for a chance to win a Biona and Holland & Barrett hamper worth over £150. Plus, we’ll be giving away branded tote bags (while stocks last), recipe books, and event-exclusive discount vouchers!
